Canada International Black Women Excellence (CIBWE) is an organization that has been championing the efforts of changemakers for years. As its name boldly declares, it focuses on supporting and uplifting Black women in Canada spanning a full spectrum of industries. After a three-year break, CIBWE’s signature event the Black Pearls Gala is making a return on Saturday 15 October, 2022.

Described as a night to “ignite our legacy”, this year’s gala will bring together hundreds of Black women for an evening of celebration, networking and inspiration. The keynote speaker for this year’s event will be Dr. Jean Augustine who made history as the first Black woman elected to Canada’s Parliament and served from 1993-2006. Her tenure included serving as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Minister of State for Multiculturalism and the Status of Women, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament. During her impressive career she spearheaded several legislative milestones such as the historic Black History Month Motion.

As with previous years, the Black Pearls Gala will reveal CIBWE’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch - an impressive list of innovators and industry leaders. Hosted by author and community activist Kimberlee Shelley, the gala will also feature an exciting lineup of performers including singer, songwriter Bolu Adefemi, and award-winning poet Nadine Williams, among others. The event presents a great opportunity to connect with and be inspired by a thriving Black network of women making major strides across Canada and beyond.
