Good news moments of 2022

Although summer felt like it was just a few days ago, the second half of the year has quickly flown by and we’ve made it to the home stretch! For many of us this has been yet another year of transition and readjusting to a new way of post-pandemic life. Unfortunately these days the news has a tendency to be demoralizing and generally awful. But as we pointed out a year ago “the bright spots still exist, we just have to take the time to find them!” So let’s dive into our annual good news recap!

Sports news: The GOAT Serena Williams announced her retirement from professional tennis and gave us all another chance to give her her flowers and reflect on her amazing, record-breaking career.

Technology news: AfroTech brought together Black tech practitioners, investors, corporations, entrepreneurs, and artists. The five day conference had over 25,000 attendees and aims to continue being a leading “tech, investing, and wealth-building platform for the Black community.”

Feel-good news: Legendary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Emmy win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Abbott Elementary) and her incredible acceptance speech left us feeling overjoyed and inspired.

Lifestyle news: Kenyan fashion designer David Ochieng known as 'Avido', has a brand that is steadily growing a global fanbase. The short film Colours Are Alive Here, by filmmaker Seydou Mukali explores Avido’s roots in Nairobi’s Kibera slum.

World news: For the first time, Ghana hosted the Global Citizen Festival, an annual event that aims to mobilize international action to fight climate change and empower women and girls.
